For news and information about the proposed Trevallyn Community Garden WATCH THIS SPACE.

The Trevallyn Sustainability Group has developed a proposal for a community garden at Trevallyn Park.

The group would like to hear the views of concerned people about the proposal. The Garden would use part of the grassed area at the intersection of Gorge Road and Bald Hill Road.

The Garden would cover approximately 22 x 44 metres, leaving the rest of the site as it is. (Note that the council does have some excellent ideas for additional landscaping, which could be implemented as separate projects).

'The vision' is to create a community food garden in the heart of Trevallyn, where people can get together in the outdoors, grow vegies and share knowledge and ideas. Children from Trevallyn Primary School will garden here, as well as other interested individuals and groups.

The group sees the garden as being used to demonstrate sustainable living techniques, host workshops, provide a space where newcomers can meet other residents to learn about the area, and for other enjoyable activities which increase community interaction.

The basic structure would be raised beds and a small garden shed within a secure (fenced) space with an external rainwater tank. There will be seating, some shelter and a place to have a cuppa and a chat. Examples of popular and successful community gardens in Launceston are located at Punchbowl and Rocherlea. The group aims to make it an attractive and inviting space, contributing to the already active heart of our great community, Trevallyn Park.

Trevallyn Sustainability Group is a group of local individuals who are enthusiastic about the idea of a community garden. They believe it will be a great initiative for the community and for sustainability, and for residents who want to get out with others and grow things! If you are interested, you can jointhem.
